Step 15. Once each piece is shaped and sanded to your satisfaction, dry fit everything one last time on your backer to ensure the pieces fit tightly. Glue one piece at a time to the backer, starting with the first red piece. Take your time here. Once glued with the CA glue, it is not going to move!

Step 14. Polish the surface of the pieces using cushioned aluminum oxide sanding discs.

Final assembly

After the fins are thermoformed, take the 1/8"-Dia. pins and glue them into the holes previously drilled, then glue the fins to the body using CA glue. If you are going to hang your angelfish on the wall, drill a 3/8" deep hole to receive the brass insert in the back of the angelfish. Note: be careful not to drill through to the front of the Corian. Glue the brass insert into the hole using the CA glue, then hang and enjoy. W-j

Step 16. Dry fit the fins to the body of the angelfish and bore the 1/8"-Dia. holes for the brass pins to aid in holding the fins to the fish. Using a straight edge, draw the lines on the body of the fish and the fins for accurate pin placement.

Step 17. After the fins are dry fitted to the body, you want to thermoform (heat and bend) the fins to give them additional shape and add more "life" to your project. Thermoform your angelfish fins by preheating an oven to 340 degrees. Place the fins on a cookie sheet and bake them for approximately 12 to 15 minutes. Use oven mitts or some other kind of thick glove that will not burn to gradually and CAREFULLY twist the fins one at a time to give them some additional shape and depth. Let the fins cool for approximately 25 minutes. Polish them again if needed.

Congratulations, gentlemen, and whatever you do, do not place your angelfish near water or they may just swim away!
