Wood: black walnut or wood of choice—one piece 1 /2" x 6-3/4" x 11 -1 /4" (for bottom panel A), one piece l/2"x5-l/2"x 10-1/4" (for middle section D], one piece 3/8" x 5" x 9-1/2" (for hinge lip E and feet G), one piece 1 /4" x 5-1/2" x 14-1 /4" (for lid F and divider panel K)*; red oak or wood of choice—two pieces 1/2"x5-1/2"x 10" (for top and bottom sections B and C); Finnish birch plywood—one piece 1 /16" x 4" x 8-1/2" (for bottom panel H), one piece 1 /32" x 3-1 /4" x 4-3/4" (for eagle overlay I) Tools: scroll saw with assorted blades; drill with bits; router with roundover bit

*5/16" wood thickness is preferred for lid F if available in your area. Also, if 10" wide wood is available, consider running the wood grain the short direction as we did on ouis.

Lid (F) - Make the lid from 1/4" black walnut or other species of choice, saw it to 5-5/16" x 10" [experiment with grain direction). Note: if 5/16" thick wood is readily available (or if you have access to a thickness planer, etc.), the lid looks a little better from the slightly thicker material. Round over the top edges with a router and bit or by hand filing and sanding.

Feet (G) - Make the four feet from 3/8" thick black walnut or species of choice. Note: use up some of the scrap wood for them, if possible.

Bottom panel (H) - Make the bottom for the box from 1/16" Finnish birch plywood (or equivalent).

Eagle overlay (I) - Make the eagle overlay from 1/32" Finnish birch plywood (or equivalent). Stack and saw several at a time.

Mirror (J) - Make the mirror from 1/8" mirrored Plexiglas sawn to 3" x 7-3/4". Divider panel (K) - Make the divider panel from 1/4" thick black walnut or species of choice cut to 1-1/4" x 3-13/16".

Support leg (L) - Make the support leg from 5/16"-Dia. dowel cut 1-1/4" long. Music box cover (M) - Make the music box cover from 1/8" clear Plexiglas. Bore the three 5/64"-Dia. holes and the one 5/16"-Dia. hole as indicated. Shut-off pin (N) - Make the shut-off pin from 5/16"-Dia. dowel cut 1 /2" long, with one end rounded. continued on page 22
