had little experience in cutting joints with a hacksaw, it will be unrealistic to expect perfection on your first attempt (unless you're very lucky). Keep practicing with scrap stock and you will soon develop the knack of sawing correctly.

This joint can be used for a frame that will hold a panel. The grooves that will hold the panel edges are best cut with a router with a V* inch straight bit. Rail grooves run the full length of the member but the stile grooves should be stopped about Vi inch beyond the inner corner of the miter cut (Fig. 12). The grooves are routed after

hand plane, grooves can be cut by scoring lines representing the groove sides using a steel straight-edge as a guide and making repeated passes with a sharp knife. The waste between the lines is then chipped out in small bites with a chisel the same width as the groove. This sounds tedious but the job can be accomplished in a surprisingly short time.
